Europe is still the place in the world where you can drink more than ever, with peaks fairly high in the UK, with a consumption of 4.7 liters of alcohol above the world average.

For example, forty-three EU Member States have set to 18 years the minimum age for buying alcoholic beverages and 13 countries have changed the taxes on alcoholic beverages accordingly to the inflation.

In short, the political efforts made in recent years in Europe are beginning to bear fruit, and even facing these positive signs, we must not forget that alcohol is still a major cause of death and disease, said Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe.
